When I toured the provinces after my return, I told the local people that I had no desire for any regime or position, that if Korea were to become independent, I wanted to go to the countryside to be a farmer, that I insisted that the first president be Dr. Rhee Syngman, my revered senior, and that I had been exerting efforts for national reunification.
As the Korean issue has taken a sharp turn recently, some people are advising me to go forward in concert with Dr. Rhee; however, in my opinion, if we leave the 38th parallel as it is, we will not be able to unify our people and homeland, and we will not be able to solve the problems of people's livelihoods, so I cannot go with him, and I also cannot accept the election in South Korea only.
