We now celebrating the March 1st Independence Movement without having our own liberated homeland and unified independence. Looking back, on March 1, 1919, 33 representatives of our people rose with patriotic compatriots all over the country in order to fight and recover the independence of the homeland by even sacrificing their lives together against the Japs. Our struggle against the Japs was strengthened and expanded through this March 1 movement. This struggle never ceased until the defeat of the Japanese.
In the meantime, our sacrifice has been even greater. The defeat of the enemy brought us to us freedom, democracy, and independence as a matter of course, but things have gone to the opposite and eventually our country has been divided into two by the allied forces. We have severely fought for decades to overthrow the enemy. We prayed everyday for the victory of the allies and cooperated with it at our best. However, the allied forces occupied our land for a definite period of time. As a result, the people's life has been plunged into misery both in the north and south. The dark cloud of agony and sadness covered the nation. At this time, the establishment of the so-called democratic people's republic of Korea from the North or the central government from the South would mean to divide our country permanently, and this would not be the wish of the independence fighters who died on the independence front. How could it be a thing their children will do? Now in the South, some people are saying that if they establish a government under the auspices of the UN, this government can become a member of the UN, but this is deceiving the people, because the UN Charter, Chapter 2, Article 4, paragraph 2, stipulates that ¡°The admission ¡¦ be effected by a decision of the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council¡± and the five major powers enjoy veto power in the Security Council, so if the Soviet Union casts a veto, South Korea cannot join the United Nations. We have seen that the Italian and Outer Mongolian republics have tried to join the UN but failed. They are insisting that a government be established even on the half of our homeland to improve livelihood of the people but they do not show us in detail how to sort ongoing problems out. Let's not be fooled. According to European newspapers, the United States and Great Britain combined the German territories occupied by them and allowed the establishment of an autonomous German government on the territories. All German people opposed it and pointed out that it would be a permanent division of Germany and at the same time, they asked for establishment of a government after unifying all the territory of Germany. The level of German culture must not be inferior to us as well as their life standard but they opposed to establish a separate government. Let us make this case a good lesson. Dear sisters and brothers, The only way for us to survive. is to achieve sovereign independence. Although this way so tough, anyone who wishes to survive can get through it. Let's not hesitate, let's not be tempted, and let's keep moving forward. Although I am such an humble man, I am determined and brave enough to lead you by pioneering the path we take. Even if facing with extremely dangerous situation, I will fight against it Dear sisters and brothers, Whenever we commemorate the great 3.1 Movement, let us freshly re-recognize background of and lessons from it, and determine to take only the way for the sovereign independence with the same heart and mind. Our independence has already been promised internationally. As long as we are alive, let us struggle for the sovereign independence of a unified Korea. Through what we are doing as such, it can be an expression of how we commemorate the March 1 Movement. Hopefully, when we commemorate the March 1 Movement, it must not be ceremony-oriented formality. Instead, heighten the spirit of the 3.1 Revolution and spread it to the world! |
