Q : On the 23rd of this month, Mr. Mughir, the Syrian delegate to the United Nations Commission on Korea, and on the 24th Dr. Singh, the Indian delegate to the same Commission, visited you for a long meeting, and during that meeting you expressed to the Commission your views on the reunification of the two Koreas, what were they?
A : The visits of Mr. Mughir and Dr. Singh were rather personal, and we had a very free exchange of views. What I said at this meeting was mainly an elaboration of what I have been advocating all along, namely, that we who long for the peaceful reunification of our country should invite the leaders of the both North and South, to Seoul, without any formality, to discuss and explore with each other the concrete measures for peaceful reunification. If there is anyone who does not respond to our invitation in good faith and in the name of the national cause, he is only a person who opposes national reunification and wants division. They also said that it would be a prerequisite for the United Nations to promote the U.S.-Soviet¡¯s compromise in order to cooperate with the reunification of the two Koreas. Q : Do you have an opinion on the United Nations Commission on Korea who are on their mission at the moment? A : The United Nations Commission 's task is likely to be challenging. It's like two strong men are fighting, and the weaker third party is standing on the sidelines trying to say gently not to fight. Q : What do you think of the content of the message sent to the UN Commission by the 63 members of the National Assembly on the 19th? A : I see it as peaceful and constructive. Q : Do you think the reunification of South and North Korea can be realized only in words? If not, what¡¯s your opinion on it? A : It¡¯s going to take a lot of hard work and dedication. And it will take a long time. |
