Statement of the Korea Independence Party
We, the Korea Independence Party, released a statement with regard to the slanderous propaganda made by the Korea Democratic Party against the Letter sent to the UN Commission by Kim Gu, Chairman of the Central Committee and President of our Party as follows. 1. We ask only for a unified, sovereign and independent government. The UN Commission also came to us with the mission to establish a government as we have demanded. They begged the Soviet Union to allow them to formally visit North Korea, but have not yet received a formal notice while they have not given up on it. In this circumstances, the fact that Korea Democratic Party has insisted, without waiting for the response, that the United Nations establish a separate government in the South because the Soviet Union has not allowed the Commission¡¯s entrance to the North is a repetition of its causal insistence once more. This is nothing more than a public confession that the Korea Democratic Party¡¯s desire for a unified government was not sincere in the first place. 2. The people who oppose the withdrawal of the U.S.-Soviet troops today are the same people who earlier ardently advocated ¡®the removal of the 38th parallel by immediately withdrawing the U.S.-Soviet troops¡¯. Therefore, their behavior today proves that their previous assertion was a lie. We can see better that they are hoping for a ¡®long live the American military government¡¯. 3. President Kim Gu's argument is not for an unconditional withdrawal of the U.S.-Soviet troops, but for the UN to assume responsibility for security and then the withdrawal of the troops to be processed. This responsibility would, of course, be lifted at the end of the withdrawal. This assertion was made by Kim on October 5 at a rally in support of the Marshall Plan at Seoul Stadium, ahead of the Soviet Union. In the first place, the lifting of the 38th parallel would be only as a result of the withdrawal of the U.S. and Soviet armies, but since the U.S.-Soviet confrontation is becoming increasingly acute, the withdrawal of the two armies is hopeless, and therefore the removal of the 38th parallel is also hopeless. Therefore, the first condition for the successful reunification of Korea is to separate Korea from the sphere of influence of the U.S. and Soviet Union. To a small extent, even if U.S. and Soviet troops may continue to be stationed in Korea until the establishment of our unified and independent government, they should be the troops of the United Nations subject to the control of the United Nations. 4. There are detractors of calling for the simultaneous release of political prisoners in both sides of Korea, but this is not a patriotic attitude. There is no such criminal as a political prisoner in their respective jurisdictions regardless of where they belong to. However, it can be interpreted that those who are being charged in relation to political activities are political prisoners. From our point of view, we are more interested in the release of political prisoners in the North, so at a time when we are trying to reunify the country, why could it not be a rightful assertion of a patriotic leader, at the time of promoting unification of our land, that political prisoners of the both sides of Korea be concurrently released? 5. For our party, it was a decision of the Central Executives Meeting of this Party held on the last October 15 to propose talks of political leaders of both sides of Korea. By that decision, the first convening of the 'Political Consultative Conference' was held as a preparatory work, but it was temporarily postponed because of a reverse effect emanating from the slander of the Korea Democratic Party and the sloppiness of the Workers' Party of South Korea. If the talks it had been successful on that occasion, it could have been much more effective when we received members of the UN Commission. If so, it may be is natural to convene it once again when the U.S. and Soviet troops are withdrawn and free environment is made. Everyone must not forget that not only Kim Il Sung and Kim Doobong are in the North but Jo Mansik, Kim Byeongjo, Kim Jinsoo and other figures are there, too! The UN commissioners, who are foreigners, have come to cooperate in the reunification of the whole country, not just for the unification of the organizations under the Korea Democratic Party. If it is clear that the reunification is for the North and the South of Korea, we can recognize whose reunification is purported. Then we can understand that it is indeed a blood-curdling cry of patriotism to insist on North-South leaders¡¯ talks to promote our reunification in good faith, without waiting for foreigners to bring the leaders from North and South Korea together!. 6. The Korea Democratic Party has often resorted to an intrigue in order to seize power. They used such a way as usual when we selected the President of our Party. Therefore, during the U.S.-Soviet Joint Commission, they betrayed Dr. Rhee and President Kim Gu because of issues about the subject of consultation. They slandered Dr. Kim Kyusik as a member of the Communist Party. They tried to slander Dr. Cho Soang and Dr. Um Hangseop, and now they turn to President Kim and insult him by accusing him of leaving the national camp to go to Moscow. Because of leadership of those leaders mentioned above, the nationalist camp is moving forward with healthy strides. If the Korea Democratic Party can only represent the nationalist camp, all of our people will certainly leave the nationalist camp. How dangerous it will be! For the sake of the healthy development of the nationalist camp, we have no other choice but to scrap such an intriguing manner of the National Democratic Party. 7. President Kim has been persecuted and humiliated by enemies and their cronies because he devoted his life to the movement of nation founding. Therefore, even now, President Kim is not concerned that he is being insulted for actively promoting the patriotic movement, and he is only pleased with the support of his patriotic countrymen. People should not be concerned too much even if someone is going to harm President Kim. January 31, the 30th year of the Republic of Korea |
